i’d like to address one point though, and it’s not disagreeing with anything in the article. it’s that most social justice communities act this way. if you disagree with the group mentality, you are wrong. you’re some kind of -ist. you’re a terrible, disgusting person.

i’ve experienced it in the autism group on tumblr. me thinking that being kind to allistic parents and ignorant folk who trip into our space got me shouted at and basically chased out with torch and pitchfork. if you’re not an impressive, rude jackass, or you think something is funny, you’re gone, bye. you don’t belong in activist spaces. you’re not a “real” activist if you don’t take every tiny pitiful thing seriously.

that’s the tragedy of social justice groups on tumblr, really. i wish more than one kind of activist was accepted. just like more than one kind of rape survivor should be accepted.
